Ahmadinejad's remarks at the UN today

Ahmadinejad of Iran opined that capitalism was the cause of inequity and suffering in the world, and is in its death throes.

Although he offered no details of an alternative economic system, he said this:

"The world is in need of an encompassing and, of course, just and humane order in the light of which the rights of all are preserved and peace and security are safeguarded."

Lofty sentiments from the man whose regime is detaining, torturing, and murdering hundreds of people whose only 'crime'was to protest that regime. If anyone has reliable information to the contrary, please share it, but two examples follow (seen in multiple sources) of the practices of this regime vis-a-vis their prisoners:

In order that a virgin will not automatically go to Paradise, virgin female prisoners are raped by a prison guard before their executions--with a marriage certificate being issued for the said guard and the prisoner. Some accounts say the marriages are performed so the sexual contact is 'lawful' but that the purpose is to deny the women entrance to Paradise; others say that it is to circumvent an Iranian penal code that prohibits the execution of virgins. What seems not to be in dispute is that these rapes occur.

A former guard (himself later imprisoned, then released) recounts being present while a couple is forced to watch the rape of their 9-year-old daughter, after which the father is given an espionage confession he had previously declined to sign.

  1. It's certainly the rare time that I would agree with Ahmadinejad, but I think he's right. Capitalism is in its death throes. We need not look any further than our own back yard to see it.

As far as his human rights policy, or lack thereof, consider the source. No surprises there.

On a side note, wouldn't you have loved to be a fly on the wall when he met with Louis Farrakhan and the New Black Panther Party last week? What is the common thread that brings those three parties together? I wonder how many Americans even know the meeting took place.

  2. Hate and disdain for America as a common thread, perhaps? But one assumes they wouldn't meet just to shoot the **it, so indeed, what was on the agenda? I have to disagree about capitalism being in its death throes. Self-interest is the motivating force in human beings--not necessarily a bad thing and not necessarily incompatible with concern for others. With all its faults and potential for abuse, I can't see anything man-made that would actually be an improvement. Thanks for your input.

  3. I completely agree that capitalism is what should be, but as a global agenda continues to rise, I fear that it is slipping away from us. Our current administration is filled with socialists and Marxist ideals and many don't seem to know or care.

People in this country are buying into Socialism whether they realize it or not. I hear it often, even in my own family.

Anyway, that is where I was coming from with my comment on agreeing with Ahmadinejad. I don't like it one bit, but I see it happening.

  4. Yes, I think lots of people who would reflexively deny being in favor of 'socialism' have unwittingly accepted as truth some of its principles--particularly that 'equality of outcomes' is the same thing as social justice.
